Sahyajyothi Arts and Science College Kumily is the first arts and science college started by the Malankara Catholic Archdiocese of Thiruvalla. The College is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. It is ideally located inside the campus of St. Mary's Malankara Catholic Church at 1st Mile, Kumily. The college aspires to serve the higher educational aspirations of the people of the Highrange region. Our educational strategy emphasis job oriented degree courses to the aspiring students who are socially and economically backward, in and around Kumily. This enables them to cope up with the scientific and technological advancements of the contemporary competitive world.
The foundation stone for the college was laid on November 24, 2013 by the college patron Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Koorilos. The ceremony was blessed by the presence of most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar stephanos, Bishop in-charge of Highrange region. College began with five under graduate courses affiliated to M.G. University and approved by the Govt. of Kerala in the academic year 2014-15.
His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Koorilos, the Archbishop of Thiruvalla is the patron of the college. Rev. Fr. Philip Vattamattom is Founder Manager and Dr. Gigy Joseph was appointed First Principal in July 2014.The formal opening of the first batch started with a Schola Brevis programme on July 30th. Regular classes started on 4th August 2014. The college was formally inaugurated in a grand ceremony on 24th August 2014 by Sri. Oommen Chandy, the Chief Minister of Kerala. His Beatitude, Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, the Major Archbishop Catholicos of Syro Malankara Catholic Church presided over the inaugural ceremony.
At present the college operates seven under graduate programmes and one post graduate programme affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University - B.Com Computer Application, B.Com Finance & Taxation, B.Com Co-operation, BA Communicative English, BBA, BSW, B.Sc. Computer Science & M.Com Finance. Sahyajyothi college continues to ignite the dreams of the high ranges climbing the ladder of excellency every academic year.
