Sahyajyothi Arts and Science College, Kumily, is the first arts and science college established by the Malankara Catholic Archdiocese of Thiruvalla. Affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, the college is located within the campus of St. Mary's Malankara Catholic Church at 1st Mile, Kumily. It aims to fulfill the higher educational aspirations of the Highrange region, focusing on job-oriented degree courses for socially and economically disadvantaged students, enabling them to keep pace with contemporary scientific and technological advancements.
The foundation stone for the college was laid on November 24, 2013, by Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Koorilos. The college started with five undergraduate courses in the academic year 2014-15, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Philip Vattamattom, the Founder Manager, and Dr. Gigy Joseph, the first Principal. The inaugural batch commenced on August 4, 2014, and the college was formally inaugurated on August 24, 2014, by Sri. Oommen Chandy, the Chief Minister of Kerala, with His Beatitude, Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis presiding over the ceremony.
Sahyajyothi College continues to inspire and educate students from the Highrange region, striving for excellence in every academic year.
